Napisy, dubbing, lektor
Polish cinema programmes use three words for the language of a screening:
- napisy means subtitles. An English film with napisy plays in English with Polish subtitles. This is what we list.
- dubbing means the voices are Polish.
- lektor means one Polish voice reads the lines over the English sound.
At Cinema City, each screening says which language is original, which is dubbed, which has a voice-over and which has subtitles. We keep a screening when the original is English, there is no dubbing or voice-over, and it has subtitles.
Helios gives less detail. We keep a Helios screening when it is the subtitled version and the film is not marked as a Polish film. We then check the film against IMDb and drop it if IMDb says it is not in English. This check is not perfect, so open the Helios page to confirm if a title looks out of place.
