NOS cinemas mark original-language shows VO, short for "versão original". A dubbed show does not carry the VO mark. This site shows the English-language VO screenings at three NOS cinemas in Lisbon.
Cinemas in Lisbon
- NOS Amoreiras
- NOS Colombo
- NOS Vasco da Gama
We take the programme from the NOS website. It covers all upcoming days NOS has published, and the page lets you pick from today to a week ahead.
How we find English films
NOS tags each show with its version, so the VO shows are simple to pick out. Knowing which ones are in English takes one more step. NOS does not give the spoken language, so we look at where the film was made. If it comes from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland or New Zealand, and the show is VO, it goes on the list. We also drop films that IMDb data marks as not English.
The method is not perfect. A British co-production in another language could appear, or an English film made elsewhere could be missing. Check the title before you book.
Each time on the page says "Portuguese subs".
On the film card
NOS gives original titles, so you see the name you know. Each card has the poster, the running time, the age rating and the IMDb rating when available. Below it, every cinema that shows the film gets its own block of times, with the format of each show.
